RED CROSS RECIPIENT STORIES
For this project I was challenged to create a poster series to advertise a nonprofit of my choice. I was inspired to look into volunteer blood donation at the Red Cross. I had been curious about giving blood in the past and wanted to take a closer look at the process.
I went to a Red Cross center to give blood and planned to take some notes and ask questions. The experience felt very sterile. While this is a necessary aspect, it felt like a trip to the doctor’s office which isn’t what many would describe as enjoyable. I learned that few people come back to donate a second time and upon conducting my own assessment of whether or not I’d like to donate again I came upon something delightful: stories from those who had received the donated blood.
The stories I had read helped me feel a human connection to the intimidating and sterile experience of donating blood. I decided that these stories deserved to be front and center in the Red Cross’s communication with its potential donors. Shifting focus in this manner would be an excellent first step in reimagining the blood donation experience.
